Art on Display

Julieta Corazon is pictured sitting at a table in Creme, the restaurant where her Freedom Meditation pieces are shown on display.

This year I was very excited to have artwork on display for July's MidTown Artwalk during Artown. My series of seven drawings, Freedom Meditations was on display at Creme during the event. Those pieces not sold at the MidTown Artwalk can now be enjoyed on the second floor of 720 Tahoe Sreet in Reno's Midtown District.

I also have art on display at the University of Nevada Reno, College of Education room 2023, home of the College of Education's Dean's Future Scholars. Having mentored and tutored middle and high school students, taught summer art classes and led other group activities as an extended family member of the Dean's Future Scholars since 2003. I now have had artwork on display in the main lounge and office for a couple of years. Current featured art: The Birds and The Loud Ones . Open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are welcome and viewing the art is free, but as a strong supporter of the Dean's Future Scholars Program, I encourage visitors to make a donation to help the program continue providing guidance for first generation college students to prepare for college.

Available now! Prints of La Virgen de la Causa with inspirational quotes by CAD Walkers. I painted the original piece, now owned by Vishnu Subramaniam, as part of a fundraiser for PLAN's Cesar Chavez event in the Spring of 2012 and it was inspired in part by CAD walkers, by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta's work and by the role that Faith in a higher power and in each other plays in all social movements for change. I encourages fans of this piece of art to make donations to PLAN and to CAD, as well as to the Dolores Huerta Foundation and the Cesar Chavez Foundation. A special Thank You goes to Cindy DeLeon of Battle Born Images for layout and printing. During the two weeks of fundraising with La Virgen de la Causa, I was able meet many people who were deeply touched by the piece and by the inspirational quotes by CAD walkers. My vision then became to make sure this piece could be available to as many people as possible in print form. For being able to make this a reality, deep gratitude is also extended to Vishnu Subramaniam and to Camila Chavez of the Dolores Huerta foundation for making this piece available to the public.

Fun facts about other art previously on display:

All month of December until Jan 2, 2013, two select pieces from The Loud Ones collection were on display at Java Jungle Vino as a part of the 100 Artists under $100 Art Show taking place at Java Jungle Vino, Tap House, Imperial and Bar. Proceeds from this show went into a fund to create an art grant for young Reno artists.

In late 2011, I was asked to lead a mural project for a Cesar Chavez event co-sponsored by the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada and Nevada Humanities. The Cesar Chavez Mural Painting Competition invited Washoe County youth groups to submit murals for the competition to be held in April of 2012 and giving the groups an opportunity to win a $200 cash prize. The Latino Youth Group from Spanish Springs High School took first place. This is also the event for which La Virgen de la Causa, Our Lady for the Cause, mentioned above, was created.

In the Fall of 2010, I joined forces with Spoken Views Poet and Co-Founder Iain Watson to create a show of art and poetry that was displayed in the Sparks Library in January and February of 2011. Mr. Watson used two of my paintings to inspire two poems and I used two of his poems to inspire creation of two paintings. Issues addressed included our love of learning and personal interaction, as well as feminism and spirituality.

In 2009, I was part of an all-woman art show that took place in Reno's Strega Bar. Proceeds benefiting a local Planned Parenthood, the show was a huge success in raising awareness of women's issues.
